Construction Methods & Techniques

Construction methods and techniques are the main factors affecting architecture and building construction throughout history.

Designers from the dawn of civilizations had visions and ideas, and these could be transformed into drawings and perspectives. However, when it came to construction and implementation, physics interfered: not every vision could be transformed into reality. The architect must be fully aware of construction material specifications—what can be done and achieved, and where the limits lie.

Stone and wood were the primary construction materials for decades. With the Industrial Revolution, steel was introduced, and later we had cement, followed by reinforced concrete. Each and every material change brought new methods and techniques. Studying these methods from ancient times and tracing their course of development can provide significant added value; studying old construction methods and developing those methods is mandatory for evolvement.
